ORIGIN OF SKELETON OF TYRANNOSAURUS BATAAR PROVEN PRELIMINARILY
Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia /MONTSAME/ An origin and legal ownership of the Tyrannosaurus bataar dinosaur skeleton has been preliminarily proven that it was originated from Mongolian territory. It was reported by Yo.Otgonbayar, the Minister of Education, Culture and Science at a press conference called on Wednesday in the USA.
As informed before, a working group headed by P.Tsagaan, a senior advisor to the State Head left for the USA on June 3 to identify the origin the skeleton and to determine the legal owner. The working group has included B.Naranzun, head of the Department of Art and Culture of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science; and Kh.Tsogtbaatar, a manager of the Paleontological Laboratory and Museum. They have conducted the identifition works together with Dr. Philip Kerry, the president of the Canada's Institute of Vertebrate Paleontology; and Dr. Mark Norell, a chief of the Paleontological Division at the American Museum of Natural History. "The dinosaur specimen has been proven to be a Mongolian origin. Although the dinosaur skeletons found in the USA are similar to those found in Mongolia, there are many distinguishable attributes. For instance, we have identifyed skeleton by 12 features such as body size, structure and bone color," B.Naranzun said.
According to the officials, if the skeleton is officially proven to be of Mongolian origin, another inspection will launch by Interpol's center in Mongolia to detect person who illegally passed skeleton through the border of Mongolia.
