Iran congratulates Mersi victory in Egyptian presidential election

TEHRAN, June 25 (MNA) – The Iranian Foreign Ministry issued an official statement on Sunday congratulating the victory of Mohammed Morsi in the Egyptian presidential election.
“The history-making people of Egypt, through their responsible presence in a fateful election, once again proved their strong will for realization of the lofty goals of the great revolution of Egypt,” part of the statement said.
Morsi, the Muslim Brotherhood's candidate, is Egypt's first freely elected president since autocratic leader Hosni Mubarak was ousted in February 2011.
The Brotherhood hailed the victory as the start of new era for Egypt. It promised to appoint a cabinet that will "truly represent Egypt after revolution".
Morsi's victory was greeted with scenes of celebrations by tens of thousands of his supporters in Tahrir Square.
Morsi won 51.7% of the vote in the runoff election. His rival Ahmed Shafiq, Mubarak's last prime minister, won 48.3 percent.
