OPCW remembers victims of Iraq chemical attack on Iran in 1987

TEHRAN,June 27(MNA) – In a statement released on Tuesday, Ahmet Uzumcu, the director general of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), remembered the victims of the chemical weapons attack on Sardasht by Iraq in 1987. On June 28, 1987, the city of Sardasht in West Azarbaijan Province was attacked with chemical weapons by Saddam Hussein’s regime and the tragic event left a deadly legacy. Moreover, many people were exposed to the painful long-term effects of chemical weapons, in many cases with lasting disabilities.
