Iranian director planning to stage British play on WWII
TEHRAN,June 30(MNA) -- An Iranian director plans to stage “Judgment”, a play based on a true World War II story by British dramatist Barry Collins.
“It is a monologue, which will be delivered without intermission in two and a half hours,” Mohammareza Khaki told on Friday.
The play is about Andrei Vukhov, a fictional Soviet Army officer describing his imprisonment in a monastery cell during World War II.
Khaki described the play as unique and said that performing the monologue is a very difficult job.
He is not certain about the actor who will perform the monologue.
“Due to its nature, the play is can even be performed on any small stage,” Khaki stated.
He said that he would hold talks with cultural officials to hire one of Tehran’s theaters for staging the play. He gave no exact time for the premiere of play.
Khaki staged Jean-Claude Carriere’s “The Terrace”, an absurd comedy highlighting the inanity of life at the end of the modernist era, at Tehran’s City Theater Complex in fall last year.
Khaki was a member of the selection board for the First Monologue Theater Festival held at Tehran’s Niavaran Cultural Center in October 2006.
