German envoy summoned over insult to Iranian diplomat

TEHRAN,July 7(MNA) – The Iranian Foreign Ministry summoned German Ambassador Bernd Erbel to protest about the recent mistreatment of an Iranian diplomat in Germany, a Foreign Ministry official announced on Wednesday. Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Parliamentary and Consular Affairs Hassan Qashqavi said that a member of the Iranian consulate in Frankfurt, who was on the way home on Monday, was assaulted by a woman of African descent, but the German police, instead of dealing with the attacker, violated diplomatic norms and treated the Iranian diplomat harshly and improperly. After the incident, the German ambassador to Tehran was summoned and the German government was urged to immediately pursue the matter and provide an explanation for the mistreatment of the Iranian diplomat, he said. Qashqavi added that the Iranian Embassy in Berlin has also sent protest notes to and contacted German officials over the incident. In addition, he said that the terrorist Mojahedin Khalq Organization, in cooperation with the intelligence services of certain Western countries and the Zionist regime, has launched a campaign to stain the name of Iranian diplomats and tarnish the image of the Islamic Republic of Iran in order to complete a chain of plots, pressure, and psychological warfare against Iran.
