Iran`s GC says president not authorized to oversee implementation of Constitution

TEHRAN,July 8(MNA) – The Guardian Council obliged the administration to revise its ratification which calls for the establishment of a committee tasked with overseeing the implementation of the Constitution, otherwise the ratification would be annulled after the specified time. Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad had cited Article 113 in his decision to establish the committee. Article 113 states that after Leader, president is the highest official in the country and is responsible for implementing the Constitution and acting as the head of the executive branch of government, except in matters directly concerned with the Leadership. The issue was discussed during several meetings of the Guardian Council. And the council has announced that overseeing the implementation of the Constitution does not fall within the ambit of the president and that he cannot establish any institution in this regard.
