M`SIA-INDONESIA JTIC TO EXPLORE EFFORTS TOWARDS ASEAN ECONOMIC INTEGRATION

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 15 (Bernama) -- International Trade and Industry Minister Muhyiddin Yassin Wednesday headed the first meeting of the Joint Trade and Investment Committee (JTIC) between Malaysia and Indonesia.

The Indonesian delegation is led by Trade Minister Dr Mari Elka
Pangestu.

The meeting serves as an opportunity to review bilateral trade relations
and
will discuss ways both countries could enhance cooperation to steer more efforts
towards enhancing Asean economic integration.

Both sides will also exchange views on the status of review of the Border
Trade Agreement signed in 1970 and cooperation to explore potential in the
services sector of the two neighbours.

Total trade between both countries exceeded RM39.1 billion (US$11.1
billion)in 2007.

Between January and July this year, bilateral trade expanded by 23.6
percent to RM25.7 billion (US$7.3 billion) vis-a-vis RM20.8 billion (US$5.9
billion) in the same period last year.

Malaysia-Indonesia JTIC was established on Jan 11, 2008.
