Hardkieng wins traditional boat racing

(KPL) Hardkieng ranks the first beating Phonhong at the annual boat racing to mark the end of Buddhist Lent while Noyitthilith takes the third place.
Thousands of people in Vientiane Capital and surrounding areas flocked to the bank of the Mekong River in front of Vat Chanh temple to watch the Capital’s annual boat racing festival yesterday.
The event drew 27 boats across the capital and Vientiane province. Eight and 11 of which were traditional women’s and men’s boats respectively while 9 of which were modified men’s boats.
The winner of traditional women’s boat racing was Thapha village, which was sponsored by the Lao Sport Lottery, while the second failed to Hardkieng village and the third belonged to Lingxanh village.
The line up for the women’s traditional boat 1,000-metre event includes Tanpiew-tay, Hardkieng, Phonkhor, Phonhong, Lingxan, Khouaydeng, Lao Sport Lottery (Thapha village) and Hardxaifongneua.
Teams competing in the men’s traditional boat 1,000-metre event were: Khuaydeng, Boungphao villages, Hongmae-nha (1) and Hongmae-nha (2), Lao Sport Lottery, Tanpiew, Hardkieng, Phon-hong, Phonkhor, Noyitthilith and Lingxanh.
The modified men boats were from the Ministry of Public Security, Xiengkhuan village, Lao Sport Lottery, Thinphia village, Vientiane Police Service, Sithan tay village, Thapha village, Xaifong neua and Horme-tay villages.
The first prize for traditional women’s boat was 1-kg silver bowl with 6 million kip, the second prize was 1-kg silver bowl with 5 million kip and the third was 0.5-kil silver bowl with 4 million kip. The fourth prize for the traditional women boat was 4 million kip and consolation prize was 2 million kip.Boat racing were also held in Luang Prabang and the southernmost province Champassack.
