Laos hopes to export organic coffee by 2009

(KPL) Lao Coffee Association has set a plan to export Lao organic coffee to EU, USA and Japan after finding high demand in these countries.
The organic coffee plantation in Paksong district of Champassack province, was urged to grow more by the EU amid a high market demand in the world. Organic coffee product made in Laos was considered as highest quality and healthy care for drinkers due to a large number of people around the world which are seeking healthy foods and drinks especially organic coffee.
Mr Sinouk Sisombat, President of Lao Coffee Association disclosed yesterday that it will export organic coffee product to foreign markets by 2009, initially Lao Coffee Association will export 20 tons to overseas after then the association would dramatically increase the volume of export each year.
“We are high ambitious to meet organic coffee market’s demand because organic coffee is high quality so we have necessary to spend more times in growing approach,” he said.
Now he told KPL news that this year Laos is able to export 20,000 tons of raw coffee bean worth US$ 30 million for foreign markets. If it compared with last year export it was decreased by 30%. This is due to the space of rainfall in Paksong district.
Last year, Lao Coffee Association exported 30 tons of raw coffee bean products worth US$ 30 million.
