EU imposed Iran oil embargo on member states: Italian ambassador

TEHRAN,July 15(MNA) -- The Italian ambassador to Tehran said that the European Union imposed the decision to adopt an oil embargo against Iran on the member states.
“Italy is one of the 27 members of the European Union, and the decision to impose an embargo on Iran’s oil was a joint decision by the union, which was imposed on its members,” Ambassador Alberto Bradanin stated on Saturday.
“Italy, given its current economic situation, which is not very favorable, will definitely be affected by the oil sanctions against Iran,” he added.
“In my view, the sanctions will not be effective and will not have a great impact on Iran, and the future will show what effects and negative impacts these sanctions will have, particularly on the world’s oil market,” Bradanin stated.
He also expressed hope that an agreement could be reached between Iran and the 5+1 group (the five permanent members of the UN Security Council and Germany) so that the sanctions could be lifted.
The latest round of high-level talks between Iran and the six major powers over the country’s nuclear program was held in Moscow on June 18 and 19. No date has been set for a new round of talks.
Brazilian Ambassador Antonio Salgado, who also participated in the interview, said, “The oil sanctions against Iran will create tension and undermine stability in the world’s oil market.”
He added, “Brazil is opposed to any unilateral sanctions against Iran.”
The Vietnamese ambassador, who also participated in the interview, said, “The sanctions that have been adopted against Iran, particularly the oil embargo against it, will not only affect Iran but will also have a widespread impact.”
“The repercussions of the sanctions will affect the world’s oil market and the lives of a large number of people across the world more than Iran,” he added.
