First locomotive manufacturing factory opens in Iran

KARAJ, July 17 (MNA) – The first specialized factory for building locomotives was opened in Karaj on Tuesday at the presence of Iranian President Ahmadinejad and officials of Alborz Province. Alborz Province is one of the 31 provinces of Iran which is centered in Karaj. The project is primarily intended to produce locomotives to promote public transportation, to increase the number of active fleet of locomotives to 600 nationwide, and to reduce fuel consumption. The plant will produce passenger trains with a speed of up to 160 km/hr and indigenizes the knowledge of production and construction of locomotives. In the first stage the project has created 300 jobs and 750 in the second stage.
