Grand ayatollah criticizes Muslims’ silence on Myanmar killings

QOM,July 22(MNA) – Grand Ayatollah Nasser Makarem Shirazi called on the world’s Muslims to break their silence on the massacre of Muslims in Myanmar and urge the United Nations to take action to stop the killings. “Muslims should seek the help of the United Nations so that the problem could be resolved,” Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi stated in Qom on Saturday. “Why have Muslims remained silent and have left the people of Myanmar defenseless?” Amnesty International said on Friday that communal violence is grinding on in western Myanmar six weeks after the government declared a state of emergency there, and Muslim Rohingyas are increasingly being hit with targeted attacks that have included killings, rape, and physical abuse, AP reported.
