Weathering the storm will double Syria’s might: Iranian security official

TEHRAN,July 28(MNA) – The secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council said that weathering the current crisis will double the might of the Syrian people and government and will promote their dignity.
SNSC Secretary Saeed Jalili made the remarks during a meeting with a Syrian delegation led by Syrian Deputy Prime Minister Omar Ibrahim Ghalawanji in Tehran on Thursday.
People do not consider as sincere claims of democracy by the United States and some of its Arab allies which have not even held one election in their political life but today are portraying themselves as defenders of democracy and human rights.
“The people of the region do not believe that the United States and the countries that have not experienced even one election in their history are today advocates of democracy and the rights of regional nations,” the top security official stated.
In addition, Jalili said, “If the pressure that has been put on Syria is exerted on the dictators of the region, which have aligned themselves with the United States, they will be toppled within one week.”
The official added, “The support of the Syrian people and government for the resistance (against the Zionists regime) in the region is exemplary, and that is why they have been targeted by the Unites States, the Zionists, and terrorists.”
Elsewhere in his remarks, Jalili described Tehran-Damascus relations as strategic and called for increased cooperation between the two countries.
He also said that the Islamic Republic will continue to defend the Syrian nation against foreign pressure.
Ghalawanji thanked the Iranian government for throwing its weight behind Syria.
The Syrian official also said that the West’s economic sanctions on Syria will put more pressure on vulnerable groups in the Arab country than the Syrian government.
