English Translation Of Dena Biosphere Reserve Document Underway

Tehran, July 28, IRNA -- The management program for Dena biosphere reserves will be translated into English by the end of 2012 and submitted to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), an official said.
Deputy Head of Environment Protection Organization for Natural Habitats and Biodiversity, Asghar Mohammadi Fazel, said that Dena reserves have been registered as Iran’s tenth biosphere reserve in the year 2010.
“When a biosphere reserve is registered, the officials of that country have a deadline of three years to prepare the management schedule for that particular reserve and present them to stable sphere and human national committee, as well as International Technical Committee that will be sent to UNESCO after the approval of the committees,” Mohammadi Fazel added.
He noted that in biosphere, humans are inseparable part which influences the exchanges between local residents and those who come from outside with different tourism objectives in mind.
“The first prerequisite for approval of a biosphere is that the element of human should be present there,” the official added.
The protected Dena region has an area of about 93,660 hectares and it is located in southwestern Iran and in Zagros mountainous region in Kohkilouyeh-Boyerahmad province.
Dena protected area is unique in the country because of its special ecological conditions. This area acts like a special ecosystem with at least 1,200 flora species.
Presence of 128 pharmaceutical flora species, 110 wild flora species, and 61 edible wild species shows the pharmaceutical values of Dena flora species./end
