Muslim States' Ulema Stress Islamic Brotherhood

Ankara, July 29, IRNA – Ulema from Islamic states, including Iran, who have attended in a meeting in Istanbul, Turkey, to discuss major regional developments, stressed the need to strengthen Islamic brotherhood. The three-day gathering began in Istanbul Saturday evening and is hosted by Turkey's Presidency of Religious Affairs, an institution which represents the highest religious authority in the country. It was established in 1924 and is normally referred to simply as Diyanet. Religious figures from Iran, Iraq, Egypt, Tunisia and some other Islamic states have participated in the gathering. Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the meeting, Head of the Diyanet Mehmet Gormez stressed the significance of the Islamic Culture. He said participants of the meeting have gathered in Istanbul to send a message of Islamic brotherhood to the world./end
