Iran-Syria Fms Discuss Syrian Developments

Tehran, July 30, IRNA – Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi and Syrian counterpart Walid al-Moallem on Sunday discussed the latest developments in Syria and the ways to thwart US-backed terrorism. Both the foreign ministers called for a halt to foreign intervention in Syria and an end to supporting the terrorist groups involved in anti-government insurgency in the Arab country. They called for implementing the reforms ushered in by President Bashar al-Assad in line with materializing public demands through dialogue an interaction as the ways for overcoming the current problems in Syria. Salehi described Syria as a brotherly and friendly country and said that Iran will stand by Syria for ever. He further noted that what is going on in Syria is a conspicuous violation of a country’s rights and international regulations. Reforms presented by President Bashar Assad require enough time to produce results, he said. Condemning killing people by any party, Salehi also underlined patience and vigilance for resolving the crisis. Al-Moallem, for his part, described Iran as brother and friend of Syria in hard times and said that he is in Tehran to submit message of appreciation of the Syrian leaders regarding Iran’s principled stance against Washington's interference in Syrian domestic affairs and equipping the terrorists with ammunition to embark on sabotage and terrorism in Syria. Criticizing certain governments for their stances vis-à-vis Syria, he said that Syrians are determined to defeat the interventionist plans of the Zionist regime. He said that Syrian Army will stand firmly against the terrorists and will establish peace and stability in the country./end
