Big Plot Underway Against Syria: Larijani

Tehran, July 30, IRNA – Majlis (Parliament) Speaker Ali Larijani said that a big international and regional plot against Syria is underway because they are discontent with progressive stances of the Syrian government and nation against the Zionist regime. Larijani made the remarks in a meeting with the visiting Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Muallem in Tehran on Sunday. Majlis Speaker underlined the support of the Islamic Republic of Iran from the Syrian government and nation vis-à-vis foreign plots and hegemony of terrorist attack from outside Syrian borders. Referring to the foreign plots targeting the Syria within past year, Larijani pointed out that the Syrian government and nation through their resistance against the foreign terrorists showed that they enjoy strong support and they are capable of resolving different crises. “The government and nation of Iran like before have stood and will stand beside the government and nation of Syria,” Majlis speaker said while noting that the prospects seem to be in the interest of the Syrian government and nation. Referring to the agreements reached between Iran and Syria in economic and trade fields, Larijani noted that Majlis (Parliament) fully supports implementation of such agreements. Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Muallem for his part said that the Syrian nation will never forget the supports of the Iranians. “After the terrorists were defeated in the capital Damascus, they attacked Aleppo, but the Syrian forces drove them out of that city as well,” Muallem added. He pointed out that the Western governments through imposition of sanctions on Syria are trying to exert pressure on the Syrian nation and spread of crises in that country. “The Syrian government and nation standing beside each other and by showing resistance managed to make a big plot be defeated and today Damascus is safe and tranquil,” Muallem said while referring to onslaught of terrorists on Damascus. He pointed out that the operations are going to the interest of the Syrian nation./end
