Iranian Wrestler Wins 2012 Olympic Games Gold Medal

Tehran, Aug 6, IRNA -- Iran’s Greco-Roman wrestler in the Men’s 55-kilogram category, Hamid Sourian, won Iran’s first gold medal in 2012 London Olympics by defeating his rival in the final match, Rovshan Bayramov.
Sourian had defeated his Kyrgyz, Hungarian and Danish rivals in the previous matches before reaching final.
Sourian defeated Bayramov 2-0 in the first 2 minutes, and 1-0 in the second to claim the gold.
Sourian’s gold medal is also the first gold medal of Iran after 40 years for the national Iranian Greco-Roman team in the Olympic Games.
Iranian weightlifter Kianoush Rostami on Friday won the bronze medal in the 85kg competitions in the London 2012 Olympic Games with an aggregate of 380kg.
A total of 54 Iranian athletes are attending London’s 2012 Olympics in archery, table tennis, wrestling, weightlifting, rowing, boxing, track and field, swimming and taekwondo.
More than 10,000 athletes from over 200 nations are taking part in London’s 2012 summer Olympic Games./end
