President Ahmadinejad Felicitates Victory Of Iran’s Wrestler

Tehran, Aug 6, IRNA – President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in a message felicitated the Iranian nation and Iran’s wrestling team on the victory of Iran’s Greco-Roman wrestler, Hamid Sourian, who won gold medal in the final match of Men’s 55-kilogram category in London 2012 Olympics. Part of President’s message reads, standing in the championship platform of Olympics is a pretext for the manifestation of characteristics of Iranian champions in international arenas. “I hereby congratulate the victory of Hamid Sourian, Iran’s Greco-Roman wrestler and his winning the gold medal to him and to Iran’s wrestling family, the Iranian athletes and the Iranian nation. I pray to God for further victories of Iranian athletes in London 2012 Olympic Games,” President Ahmadinejad added. Hamid Sourian won Iran’s first gold medal in 2012 London Olympics by defeating his rival in the final match, Rovshan Bayramov. Sourian had defeated his Kyrgyz, Hungarian and Danish rivals in the previous matches before reaching final. Sourian defeated Bayramov 2-0 in the first 2 minutes, and 1-0 in the second to claim the gold. Sourian’s gold medal is also the first gold medal of Iran after 40 years for the national Iranian Greco-Roman team in the Olympic Games. Iranian weightlifter Kianoush Rostami on Friday won the bronze medal in the 85kg competitions in the London 2012 Olympic Games with an aggregate of 380kg./end
