Resistance economy can pave the way for progress: Supreme Leader

TEHRAN, Aug.8(MNA) – Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said that a “resistance economy” can pave the way for the country’s progress.
“A resistance economy does not mean (taking) defensive measures and building a fence around ourselves, but rather a resistance economy is an economy that paves the way for the growth and prosperity of a nation even under pressure and sanctions,” the Leader said during a meeting with a number of students in Tehran on Monday.
Ayatollah Khamenei had previously said that the creation of a “resistance economy” is the best way to deal with the economic pressure being exerted on the country.
“Involving the people in economic activities through the implementation of the general policies of Article 44 (of the Constitution), empowering the private sector, reducing dependence on oil, managing consumption, using time, sources, and facilities as efficiently as possible, acting according to a plan, and refraining from making sudden changes to laws and policies are principles of a resistance economy,” he stated.
During Monday’s meeting, the Leader also said that growing economic problems currently afflicting the West are the result of the capitalist system.
He added that if the policies of Article 44 of the Constitution are properly implemented, it will not lead to the establishment of an economic system which is based on capitalism.
Elsewhere in his remarks, the Leader said that the adoption of an insightful approach toward the country’s realities, fair criticism, and continuous observation of developments in the country are among the main duties of student groups.
Students should avoid extremism and act wisely and patiently in carrying out their duties, he stated.
On recent judicial actions taken against student groups, the Leader said, “Of course the Judiciary has its reasons, and if they are stated, doubts will probably be cleared up. But I believe that tough action should not be taken to deal with a young student’s scathing remarks,” he noted.
