Iran’s Goudarzi wins Olympic wrestling silver

TEHRAN,Aug.12(MNA)--Iranian wrestler Sadegh Goudarzi claimed the silver medal of the men's freestyle 74kg at the London Olympics on Friday. Goudarzi lost to America’s Jordan Burroughs 1-0, 1-0, who has won 38 straight international freestyle matches and is the first Olympian to claim the $250,000 prize from the Living the Dream Medal Fund, a program designed to support U.S. wrestling. “I did my best but I have to say my rival deserved to win the gold medal. In the previous rounds, I defeated the wrestlers who were runners-up or Olympic bronze medalists,” the 25-year-old said. “I tried my best to make the Iranian people happy. Hopefully, they accept my silver medal. At the moment, I need to rest. I will withdraw from wrestling since I’ve been a member of national team for over 10 years and I have no incentive to keep going,” Goudarzi added. The bronze medal was shared by Uzbek Soslan Tigiev and Denis Tsargush of Russia.
