Japan Expresses Sympathy With Quake Survivors

Tehran, Aug 13, IRNA – Japanese Ambassador to Iran Kin Ichi Koumano conveyed his government and nation’s message of sympathy with the quake-stricken people of northwest Iran to the deputy foreign minister for legal and international affairs. According to a report by the Foreign Ministry’s Information and Press Bureau, he expressed regret over the occurrence of the quake and voiced his country’s readiness for providing humanitarian aid. Deputy Foreign Minister for legal and international affairs Mohammad Mehdi Akhoundzadeh appreciated the country’s move and said that the operations to save those trapped under debris are seriously continuing and two cabinet members are directly supervising them. Following the quake in northwest Iran, ambassadors of the countries and envoy of the international organizations have contacted Foreign Ministry to express sympathy and voice their readiness to provide the quake-stricken people with facilities. A powerful earthquake measuring 6.2 on the Richter scale on Saturday jolted northwest Iran killing at least 280 people and injuring 2,000./end
