Hai Phong officials tour US to lure investors

New York (VNA) - A delegation of the Hai Phong port city led by Nguyen Van Thuan, Secretary of the municipal Party Committee and Chairman of the municipal People's Council, arrived in New York on Oct. 16 for a trade and investment promotion tour to the US.

During its stay in New York , with assistance from the Vietnam
Parners LLC organisation, the delegation cooperated with the Vietnamese
mission to the United Nations to hold a seminar on "Investment in Hai Phong".

Speaking at the seminar, the head of the Vietnamese mission, Ambassador Le
Luong Minh, briefted the participating US businesses on Vietnam 's
situation, policies and achievements in socio-economic development.

He stressed the stability and security in the country and affirmed
Vietnam 's determination to maintain macro economic balance as well as its
consistent policy to create favourabvle conditions for foreign businesses
and investors in Vietnam .

Chairman Thuan and other Hai Phong officials highlighted the city's
advantageous geographical location and favourable economic and social
conditions. They particularly emphasised the city's socio-economic
development strategy and the policy to encourage foreign investment.

Hai Phong has maintained an annual economic growth rate of 12.8 percent
over the past 10 years. It has attracted over 2 billion USD in investment
from 25 countries and territories, Hai Phong officials said.

They also provide information about local projects calling for foreign
investment in infrastructure construction, development of biosphere areas
and hotels.

US businesses paid much attention to Hai Phong's regulations on
investment and investment environment. They also expressed their hope to
cooperate with the city in industries using modern technology, including
waste water treatment for industrial zones and golf courses and production
of clean natural gas.

During the visit, the Hai Phong delegation also hold a talk with a number
of Philadelphia-based Vietnamese businesspeople of Hai Phong origin.-Enditem
