Thailand's resort island of Phuket faces floods
PHUKET, THAILAND, August 22 (TNA) - Rainfalls overnight have caused 3 districts in the resort island of Phuket in the south of Thailand to be severely flooded, prompting 2 schools to close.
Flash floods struck Muang district at 5am, submerging many areas under 50-70 centimetres of water. Satree Phuket and Phuket Wittayalai schools were forced to close for the day.
The municipality of the province was hurriedly giving out sand dikes to local residents, as well as to urgently drain out excess water from the areas.
In the Katoo district, the intersection in front of the Patong Hospital saw flooding at 1 metre deep, though the level was decreasing.
In Talang district, a road in Ban Lipon National Housing Authority Village was flooded but the water level there was noticed to be declining.
Officials have been deployed to flooded areas to survey the damages and deliver assistances to people. (TNA)
