Salehi Thanks Egypt For NAM Presidency

Tehran, Aug 28, IRNA – Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi thanked Egypt for its efforts during presidency of Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) in the past three years. Salehi, who took over presidency of NAM miniserial meeting from the Egyptian Deputy Foreign Minister Ramzy Ezzedin, added that the country’s presidency over the NAM had remarkable impact on the advancement of the entity’s programs. He also welcomed all his counterparts and wished a good stay for them in Tehran. Referring to two-day session of the NAM experts held on August 26-27, he expressed pleasure over their extensive consensus over the final draft document. NAM Summit opened in Tehran on August 26 and will run through August 31. Foreign ministers arrived in Tehran on Monday to take part in the ministerial session slated for August 28-29. NAM was founded in Belgrade in 1961 by then Yugoslav president Josip Broz Tito, Indian prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru, Egyptian president Gamal Abdel Nasser, Ghana’s first president Kwame Nkrumah, and Indonesian president Sukarno, all legends of the national liberation movement, with solid anti-imperial credentials, who advocated a middle course for the developing world between the western and eastern blocs in the Cold War./end
