‘NAM obligated to find peaceful solutions to international crises’

TEHRAN,Aug.30(MNA) – Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar said that the member countries of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) are obligated to cooperate to help resolve regional and international crises.
Finding peaceful solutions to international issues is a principle and an obligation of the NAM, Ms. Khar told the Persian service of the Mehr News Agency on the sidelines of the NAM foreign ministerial meeting in Tehran on Wednesday.
She also said that the Tehran conference has had positive achievements, adding that it is expected that more agreements on regional and international issues could be concluded during the NAM summit.
In a statement to the two-day NAM foreign ministerial meeting on Tuesday, the Pakistani official said, “The major challenge confronting all of us today is how to achieve international peace and security on the basis of equity and UN Charter principles. We all know peace and development are mutually reinforcing and without peace we cannot even think of development and prosperity.”
“We believe that the founding principles of the NAM, including peaceful co-existence, respect for human rights, sovereignty and territorial integrity of all states, and non-interference and non-intervention in internal affairs of other countries provide the firm basis for enduring peace, stability and development in the world,” she added.
