Carpet tableau of Persian luminaries completed

TEHRAN,Sept.1(MNA) – A veteran artist has recently completed weaving a carpet tableau bearing images of the physician and philosopher Avicenna, poet and mathematician Omar Khayyam and epic poet Ferdowsi. Traditional designs and motifs have been used in weaving the carpet, carper weaver Hassan Javanshahi told on Friday. The designs used in Persian tile works, plaster works, intarsia works and arabesques are seen in the carpet, which have been interlaced with motifs used in silk kilims, he added. Measuring 70x115 centimeter, the tableau has been commissioned by the Eternal Figures Committee, an Iranian organization that selects artists and scholars of the year. Javanshahi said that it took him over five months to complete the carpet, in which 70 to 80 percent of its fabric has been made from silk thread. “The carpet bears the three images in the middle and the calligraphy of the Holy Quran verses in Arabic and Persian in the margin,” he said.
