Iranian javelin thrower wins silver at Paralympics

TEHRAN,Sept.8(MNA)--Iranian athlete Kamran Shokri won the silver medal in the men's javelin F42 competition at the London Paralympics on Friday.
Shokri made a throw of 52.06m to claim the silver. His throw was just 0.73 meters short of a gold medal.
The gold medal went to China's Yanlong Fu (52.79m), while Norway's Runar Steinstad (48.90m) settled for bronze.
“The Chinese thrower was very lucky to claim the gold because his main record was 46.98m,” Shokri’s coach said.
Shokri claimed Iran’s twentieth medal in the Paralympics. Iran currently stands in 12th place in the rankings with 8 gold medals, 6 silvers, and 6 bronze medals.
The 2012 London Summer Paralympics opened in on August 29 and runs until September 9. The Paralympic Games is the world's second largest major international multi-sport event, involving athletes with a range of physical challenges.
Iran has sent 79 athletes, competing in 13 events, to the London Paralympics.
