PM:Government is sincere in solving unrest in Thai far South

BANGKOK, September 8 (TNA) - Stressing that her government is sincere in solving violence in the Thai deep South, Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra said on Saturday, besides providing safety and security to local people, her administration is also boosting development and the local economy of the troubled region. Speaking during her weekly brodacast programme, which was recorded prior to her departure on Friday for Russia's far eastern Vladivostok City to attend the 2012 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit over this weekend, Yingluck acknowledged that the violent unrest in the Thai far South has persisted since early 2004 and it needs a better understanding and time to resolve the crux. Yingluck insisted that her government is prepared to allocate more budgets to acquire more tools and equipment needed for maintaining security by state officers in the troubled region. According to the Thai premier, both the National Economic and Social Development Board (NESDB) and the Bureau of the Budget have been assigned to map out long-term economic development plans for the troubled region and to create confidence for local and foreign business operators in order to draw more investment into the southernmost Thai region. Touching on her government-sponsored Women Development Fund project, the Thai prime minister noted that it now has more than eight million members nationwide and her administration has already allocated 20 million baht for each province, out of a total of 100 million baht to be provided for each province, to improve local women's quality of life and to solve their living problems.(TNA)
