Thailand holds ASEAN Deans of Medicine meeting in preparation for AC

BANGKOK, September 17 (TNA) - Leading medical deans from the 10 member states of the Association of South Asian Nations (ASEAN) are gathering in Bangkok to discuss how to develop the most prestigious ASEAN Medical School in preparation for the ASEAN Community (AC) in 2015. Dean of Mahidol University’s Faculty of Medicine, Prof. Udom Kachintorn presided over the opening ceremony of ASEAN Deans of Medicine meeting Monday, at the Medical Research building of Siriraj Hospital. The meeting is aimed to prepare each member for the implementation of the AC and in becoming the region's most excellent in medical study, research, and world class level medical services, as well as to strengthen the ties between each country for future cooperation relating to medical issues. The meeting is set from September 17-19, with interesting lectures, such as, medical study and health system of ASEAN nations, joint plans in developing the faculty of medicine and medical internships in ASEAN, as well as issues on medical research and public health services. The medical deans would sign an agreement to build a joint network on public health services in ASEAN to help create a stronger single community and healthier population in the region. (TNA)
