M'SIA'S GDP FORECAST FOR 2009 TO BE REVISED DOWNWARDS, SAYS DPM
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 20 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian government will revise downwards the growth forecast for 2009 from the targeted 5.4 percent in light of the worsening external developments, Deputy Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak said Monday.
"Details of the review and the government's policy response will be
tabled
at the Budget winding-up speech in Parliament on Nov 4," said Najib, who is also
Finance Minister, in his speech at the Khazanah Global Lectures.
Najib said because of the volatility of the present financial crisis, the
government has to calibrate the assumption carefully.
"The growth figures depends on the assumption that you make in terms of
the price of oil, for example. This relates to the level of subsidy and
so on," he said.
He said there were certain things that the government would have to
look at deeper before announcing a revised Gross Domestic Product (GDP) target
for next year.
