Floods ease in Aranyaprathet Market
SA KAEO, Thailand, September 20 (TNA) - Sa Kaeo provincial office hurriedly assist those affected by the floods in Aranyaprathet district, with reports saying the flood level there has now receded and if there was not any more rainfalls in the area the situation should return to normal soon.
The flooding situation in the commercial heart of Aranyaprathet district of Sa Kaeo Thursday morning, has been improving, after two days of rainfalls, with the water level stabilising at 50 centimetres and 1.5 metres in different areas.
Commuters must still use the army's GMC trucks or flat-bottom boats to travel around the city, all of which are being provided by concerned agencies in the province.
However, areas around the Prom Hoad canal remained to be under 2 metres of flood water, while flood relief packages were being delivered to the temporary centre set up to assist flood victims by the Sa Kaeo provincial office and Aranyaprathet municipal office near the Clock Tower round-a-bout in front Aranyaprathet hospital.
The governor of Sa Kaeo Sanit Naksuksri said relevant agencies are providing efficient help to affected victims and he believes the situation at the Aranyaprathet Market should return to normal if there is no more rainfalls in the next couple of days.
The governor then acknowledged the economic losses of the province to be at 4-5 million baht a day, since the market is the business heart of the province.
He added more damage inspections would be needed after the flood receded, noting that a preliminary survey found 10,000 local residents already severely affected by the floods. (TNA)
