Some Bangkok's areas still under water

BANGKOK, September 21 (TNA) - Many streets and alleyways in the capital Bangkok of Thailand were still inundated with flood water Friday morning, after heavy downpour hit the city Thursday night. Director of the Department of Drainage and Sewerage Sanya Cheenimit said the continuous heavy rainfall for several hours Thursday night in Bangkok had caused the Din Daeng district in the inner part of the capital to receive the most rainfall of 111 millimetres an hour, followed by Huay Kwang, Rachatewi, Dusit, and Pathumwan districts receiving a little lesser rainfall. As a result, some 30 main roads in the capital were flooded with water as high as 30 centimetres deep, he said. However, the director noted that his department has drained all the excess water out of the main roads, though some small streets and alleyways remained to be flooded this morning. He also assured that the drainage system is working at its maximum capability, especially in the Rama 9 tunnel, which has been operating all night long. Meanwhile, the National Meteorological Department has warned of 80 percent of scattered showers in Bangkok and its vicinity, with some areas receiving heavy rainfalls Friday. (TNA)
