Iranian director making biopic on Tajik scholar Shakuri
TEHRAN,Sept.23(MNA) -- The life story of the Tajik Persian language scholar Mohammad-Jan Shakuri Bokharaii (1925-2012) will be spotlighted in a documentary currently being produced by Iranian filmmaker Mahmud As’adi.
The production of this film is being financed by the Eternal Figures Committee, an organization established by the IRIB to annually honor scholars in cultural and scientific fields in Iran.
Shakuri was honored as one of the eternal figures in the field of Persian literature in 2005.
Part of the documentary was shot at Shakuri’s home in Dushanbe.
The team was supposed to continue filming when Shakuri returned to Iran. The doc was left incomplete after Shakuri’s death, however the crew decided to finish the production in a 30 to 40 minute doc within a month.
Shakuri, who was a member of the Iranian Academy of Persian Language and Literature, died in Dushanbe last week on September 16.
He made great efforts in reviving Tajik culture and “Here Is Khorasan” is among his credits.
