PM tells Thai commercial attaches to promote Thai products overseas

NEW YORK, UNITED STATES, September 25 (TNA) – Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has told Thai commercial attaches to actively promote Thai products overseas. During her ongoing visit to the United States to attend the 67th United Nations General Assembly in New York, Yingluck on Monday laid down the policy to Thai commerce authorities in North America, saying she wants the officials to keep existing customers and find new markets for Thai food and other products, especially those of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Yingluck also asked the officials to monitor quality of Thai products and services which are popular in areas under their jurisdiction, especially spa products, assigning the officials to particularly support Thai business operators in marketing new products in the United States. The Thai prime minister then opened the Thai Restaurant Week fair in New York, during which she acknowledged that Thailand has earned over 20 billion US dollars from food exports and has remained a world major rice exporting country, and that her government plans to further boost Thai food exports and guarantee their quality, especially in relation to food safety and consumers’ health. The Thai premier assured that the promotional efforts from her government would increase the satisfaction of international consumers who have Thai foods. At 7pm local time, the Thai prime minister then joined a dinner reception US President Barack Obama and his wife hosted for participants in the 2012 UN General Assembly, during which she greeted the US President and the First Lady and referred to the 180th anniversary of Thai-American relations next year.
