Vice President leaves for China

(KPL) Mr. Bounnhang Vorachit, Vice President of the Lao PDR and his delegation left Vientiane yesterday to attend the 5th China-ASEAN Expo to be held in Nanning, Guangxi, China on October 22 to 25, 2008, to share the enormous business opportunities generated by the China-ASEAN Free Trade Area (CAFTA).
The China-ASEAN Expo (CAEXPO), co-sponsored by China and the 10 ASEAN countries as well as the ASEAN Secretariat, is the only international trade fair which themes on the China-ASEAN Free Trade Area (CAFTA) and aims at promoting the reciprocal cooperation and common development of China and ASEAN.
Since 2004, the CAEXPO has been successfully staged for 4 years in a row. 23 heads of state/government and over 600 VIPs at or above ministerial level showed their presence at this grand event, along with 82, 000 exhibitors and trade visitors. The total trading volume recorded USD 4.92 billion and that of the concluded international cooperation contracts topped USD 22.26 billion at the previous CAEXPOs. This grand event has greatly promoted the bilateral exchanges and cooperation in different fields between China and ASEAN, which is thus of great significance within the China-ASEAN region.
The 5th CAEXPO will be convened in Nanning, Guangxi, China on October 22-25, 2008, setting up 4 pavilions, i.e. the Pavilion of Commodity Trade, the Pavilion of Investment Cooperation, the Pavilion of Agricultural Applicable Technology and the Pavilion of Cities of Charm. Cambodia, as the Country of Honor for the 5th CAEXPO, will stage a series of theme programs/activities including the Sino-Cambodian Entrepreneurs Seminar. 6 ASEAN countries will set up their own exclusive exhibition hall to showcase commodities of their respective country. And heads of state/government of China and the ASEAN countries will show presence at the CAEXPO Opening Ceremony and inspect the exhibitions.
The 5th CAEXPO highlights the information & communications technology (ICT) cooperation. The 3rd China-ASEAN ICT Week and a series of high-level forums/conferences will be concurrently held with the 5th CAEXPO. By then, competent ICT ministers of China and ASEAN, entrepreneurs from the Fortune 500 enterprises, business professionals and senior officials of the international organizations will be invited to release trade policies and business information.
The China-ASEAN Business & Investment Summit (CABIS), a concurrent event of the CAEXPO, is the highest-level grant event of its kind in the business and investment circles of China and ASEAN.
The 5th CABIS, with Broader Vision and Move Action as its themes, will offer a sound place for all parties concerned to exchange views on 2 major topics, i.e. SME cooperation and investment cooperation. The 2008 Nanning International Arts Festival of Folk Songs, the gala show held for the CAEXPO, showcases cultural charms of different countries, which will greatly promote bilateral cultural exchanges.
Guangxi, the host province of the CAEXPO, is the closest province in China to ASEAN both by sea and land passages, while its Guangxi Pan-Beibu Gulf Economic Zone is an important international regional economic zone in China, with prominent potentials and abundant business opportunities. Nanning, the host city of the CAEXPO, the core of the Pan-Beibu Gulf Economic Zone as well as the Winner of UN Habitat Scroll of Honor Award, is a charming city for your visit, both business and private.
An official farewell ceremony for Mr. Bounnhang Vorachit and his delegation was held at the Wattay International airport in the presence of senior officials from Laos and China including Chinese Ambassador Pan Guangxue.
