Laos faces the Philippines today

(KPL) The men’s national football team is due to compete against the Philippines rivalries today after losing to the host Cambodia by 3-2 last Friday in the first match of qualifying round of Suzuki Cup 2008, formerly known as Tiger Cup, in Phnom Penh.
“Laos is very strong team and perhaps the best team in this tournament,” said Prak Sovannara, the head coach of Cambodia football team. “They made it difficult for us but we are satisfied with the results although we tried very hard to prevent them from scoring the second goal.”
Laos broke through the flanks several times in the opening half but Vongphet Sylisay’s effort was not well-supported.Laos has spent the last several months in one of the top clubs in Vietnam, their fitness and strength was obvious.
Niwat Klaysang, Lao team manager, told media at a pre-match press conference last week in Phnom Penh, “Before coming to this tournament, the players trained with a professional Vietnamese football club, Hong An Gia Lai, in Vietnam. The team may be young but I think they have been shaping up very well. We need more exposure for sure but I think that we can be strong for the qualifying round meet.”
