Thai PM meets New York Mayor

NEW YORK, September 28 (TNA) - Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, who is visiting the United States to attend the 67th United Nations General Assembly in New York from September 23-29, met New York Mayor Michael Rubens Bloomberg on Thursday local time, during which she acknowledged that there have been good signs for reconciliation in Thailand. At the New York City Hall meeting, Yingluck and the New York Mayor exchanged views on metropolitan administration, after the Thai prime minister visited New York’s High Line Park and the Grand Central Terminal which demonstrate environmental rehabilitation in US urban areas. Both leaders also discussed the rehabilitation of New York after it was damaged by terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. In response to Bloomberg's inquiry about political and economic developments in Thailand, Premier Yingluck said her government has prioritized national reconciliation and there have been good signs for a success. The Thai prime minister also mentioned Thailand’s recovery from a flooding crisis late last year with new infrastructure development projects worth about 100 billion US dollars, including high-speed railways to link major cities nationwide, the expansion of the main Suvarnabhumi International Airport to serve some 65 million passengers a year in the future and short and long-term flood prevention projects worth 20 billion US dollars. On the occasion, the Thai prime minister also asked the New York Mayor to support art and cultural exchanges with Thailand and the Thai Artists Alliance, founded in New York three years ago to promote the works of Thai artists in the US most populous city.
