Heavy rains affect Thailand
BANGKOK, September 30 (TNA) - Heavy showers continue across Thailand as rising floodwaters caused more havoc and damaged an increasing number of farmland and property on Sunday.
In the western province of Kanchanaburi bordering Myanmar, the third day of heavy rain had caused local rivers to overflow, making transport difficult.
Kanchanaburi Governor Chaiwat Limwanta said he had told local officials to be on red alert for run-offs from elevated grounds.
Several parts of Prachin Buri Province in the east were also flooded for more than a week. Six districts had been declared disaster zones, while more than 8,000 rai of farmland had been inundated. Water overflowing from the Prachin Buri River had already submerged local temples, a hospital, and including the governor’s residence.
Increasing concerns had been also placed on southern Thailand, especially along the Andaman Coast. Several roads in Trang province were reportedly under floodwater after a week of heavy rain. (TNA)
