‘Judiciary will deal with people manipulating foreign exchange, gold markets’

TEHRAN,Oct.2(MNA) – Iranian Judiciary spokesman Gholam Hossein Mohseni-Ejeii said that the Judiciary will seriously deal with the people who are manipulating Iran’s foreign exchange and gold markets.
In recent weeks, Iran’s rial has steeply fallen against the U.S. dollar in open-market trade, and the price of gold coins has sharply risen in the country’s markets.
Mohseni-Ejeii, who is also the national prosecutor general, said in Tehran on Monday, “If we identify an individual or a group that is distorting (the markets), we will certainly deal with them.”
He went on to say that fluctuations in foreign exchange and gold markets have caused problems for people and reduced their purchasing power, adding that the administration and the Majlis have taken measures to address the issue.
He also said that the country’s intelligence and security services have asked for permission to seriously pursue the matter in order to identify the people who are manipulating the markets.
