Busan festival to show doc on Iranian Western movie maniac
TEHRAN,Oct.2(MNA) -- The 17th Busan International Film Festival is scheduled to screen “My Name Is Negahdar Jamali and I Make Westerns”, an Iranian documentary about an amateur Iranian director with a mania for making Western movies.
Directed by Kamran Heidari, the movie will be competing in the New Currents Section of the festival, which will be held from October 4 to 13.
The film narrates the life of Negahdar Jamali, who has been making Western films in Iran for 35 years. Not screened in normal theaters, and with few–or no–sponsors let alone producers, his films are made and watched by and with people in his neighborhood.
This engaging documentary pays witness to this passionate director making his beloved Westerns while earning a living.
“The film is filled with unreserved fervor for a man who cannot stop making films despite many realistic problems, among them social prejudices, family conflicts and making ends meet,” the director Young-jung Cho commented in Pusan festival’s website.
Busan International Film Festival (BIFF), held annually in Haeundae-gu, Busan (also Pusan), South Korea, is one of the most significant film festivals in Asia. The focus of the BIFF is introducing new films and first-time directors, especially those from Asian countries.
