Moscow opposed to political, economic pressure on Tehran: Iranian ambassador

TEHRAN,Oct.3(MNA) – The Iranian ambassador to Moscow said that Russia is opposed to the exertion of political and economic pressure on the Islamic Republic for its nuclear program.
Ambassador Mohammad Reza Sajjadi said, “Russia insists that Iran’s nuclear activities should become transparent through legal channels, while it is strongly opposed to the imposition of sanctions beyond the United Nations Security Council resolutions, the exertion of political pressure, and threats of military attack on Iran.”
He also said, “The Russians are standing firm so that military and crushing economic pressure would not be exerted on Iran.”
He went on to say that Russia is convinced that Iran is not seeking to develop nuclear weapons, but it is natural that Moscow approaches Iran’s nuclear issue cautiously.
Russia’s concern in this regard could be alleviated through increased economic and political relations between Tehran and Moscow and exchange of visits between the two countries’ officials, he said.
The Russians should realize that the nuclear program is a matter of national pride for the Iranians and that the Iranian nation does not want to give in to pressure and the West’s double-standard approach, he added.
