Iranian director to stage play based on Shakespeare’s works

TEHRAN,Oct.3(MNA) -- An Iranian director planned to stage a play based on a number of William Shakespeare’s works. The idea for the play entitled “The Transposed” was given by actor Hedayat Hashemi, Hadi Amel-Hashemi told on Tuesday. The play will be a sequel to Amel-Hashemi’s previous works, which his group Papatiha (The Poor) has performed based on the theory of transposition and imitation in ruhozi, a form of Iranian traditional theatrical performance. “The Transposed” was written by Puyan Ghaffari and it will be staged at the Sangelaj Hall this winter. “The play was written based on a collage of Shakespeare’s plays and the scenes that depict the transposition of roles have been selected for this work,” he said. A number of actors will also join the group, which includes Negar Abedi, Sina Razani, Ali Amel-Hashemi and Javad Purzand. Amel-Hashemi staged Dario Fo’s “We Won’t Pay! We Won’t Pay!” at the Entezami Hall of the Iranian Artists Forum in June and July. His group had previously performed Fo’s “The Tale of a Tiger” at Tehran’s City Theater Complex in 2011. Both of the plays were warmly welcomed by theatergoers.
