Thailand hosts Water Loss Asia 2012

BANGKOK, October 4 (TNA) - Thailand hosts a biennial forum, Water Loss Asia (WLA) 2012, from October 3-5, in which water industry professionals and representatives of Asian governments and relevant international bodies participate. Jointly organised by the Thai Waterwork Association (TWA) and the PROTEMP Group, the WLA 2012, the third of its kind, is aimed at creating regional and international awareness on the importance of water loss management, concentrating particularly on Southeast Asia, where water utility reforms are needed, along with other developments. According to an updated assessment of the Manila-based Asian Development Bank (ADB), about 29-billion-cubic-metre water has been lost each year in the region, causing Asia’s water utilities to have lost more than 9 billion US dollars in revenues annually. The ADB suggested that improved irrigation systems and water reforms enable millions of people in Asia and the Pacific to gain more access to fresh water. The three-day regional forum comprises of a conference, a workshop and a trade show of latest products and advance technologies on effective water loss management. (TNA)
