Japanese businesses to invest in tree plantations in southern provinces

(KPL) Two Japanese companies Oji Paper and Sojitsu Corporation have been approved of conducting a feasibility study for investing in the plantation of eucalyptus and acacia in five provinces, namely Savannakhet, Saravane, Sekong, Attapeu and Champassak.
A memorandum of understanding on the approval was held here last week between the Ministry of Planning and Investment and the two Japanese investors.
According to the MoU, the two Japanese companies will conduct a feasibility study for their investment project in the provinces within six months.
The signatories to the document were Deputy-Minister of Planning and Investment Mr Thongmy Phomvisay, Deputy-Head of the Ministry Agriculture and Forestry Cabinet Mr Khamphanh Meuansithida and Mr Kei Noshita, on behalf of the Sojitsu Corporation, and Mr Shiiro Tokunaka, Director General of the Oji Lao Plantation Forest Co Ltd.
The signing was witnessed by Japanese Ambassador to Laos Masaaki Miyashita and relevant officials of both sides.
