Farina fined $2000, Kosmina cleared

The fine Frank Farina expected has been imposed with A-League chiefs slugging the
Queensland Roar coach $2000 for his scathing attack on match officials.
Farina foreshadowed the punishment during his outburst after the Roar fell to a
controversial 1-0 loss to Adelaide United on Friday night at Suncorp Stadium.
The Roar coach vented his spleen, alleging "atrocious" officiating allowed an
offside Cristiano to contribute to Robert Cornthwaite's match-winning goal.
"It was an atrocious decision which cost us the game," Farina said on Friday night
Football Federation Australia announced the fine after finding Farina breached
clause 5.1 of the national code of conduct relating to disparaging or derogatory
criticism of match officials.
As a result of Farina's penalty, his club also copped a $1000 suspended fine under
clause 5.2 of the code of conduct.
After the loss to the Reds, Farina said he'd been complaining to the referees since
the start of the season about teams exploiting the passive offside rule but had been
ignored.
"I tell you what's going to happen, next week the Queensland Roar will officially
get a letter from the FFA fining me," he said. "For what? Telling the truth. Stating
the bleeding obvious."
It's the second time in two seasons Farina has been fined for his post-match
comments, but he was fined more last year.
Club officials refused to comment.
Good mate and rival coach John Kosmina has fared better after an FFA review of his
post-match comments, escaping any punishment,
The national governing body reviewed Kosmina's criticism of Iain Fyfe's red card
against Perth before opting against taking action.
Fyfe was sent off for striking after the Glory's Argentine import, Adrian Trinidad,
took a dive in the dying minutes of his team's upset win.
Kosmina accused the Glory of overstepping the boundaries of fair play with
time-wasting tactics and the diving Trinidad "milking" the free kick "big time".
