‘UN should restore Palestinians’ rights instead of playing political games’

TEHRAN,Oct.25(MNA) – During an open session of the Majlis on Wednesday, Iranian Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani severely criticized the United Nations reports on Iran, saying instead of playing political games, the UN should stand up for the Palestinian people’s rights. He said that the Iranian parliament warns the UN to avoid playing political games and seek to restore the rights of the oppressed people of Palestine. Commenting on the recent report of Ahmed Shaheed, the UN Special Rapporteur on the human rights situation in Iran, Larijani said that it is a shame that Shaheed has described the implementation of the Islamic penal code as a violation of human rights. He said that the main problem of the world today is rooted in the double-standard approaches of the UN. Addressing UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, Larijani said that Iranian MPs are proud that they have drafted the laws of the country based on “Quran and Sunnah.” “Mr. Secretary General! You may be able to publish such reports on Iran in the international atmosphere thanks to the United States’ influence but you should be confident that… you have ridiculed the United Nations’ identity with your political dance,” Larijani stated.
