Tehran rejects precondition by European Parliament team for visiting Iran

TEHRAN, Oct. 28 (MNA) – A visit to Iran by the European Parliament delegation was canceled as Iran rejected a precondition by the 15-memebr team to meet two political prisoners in Iran and present them with awards. “The European Parliament delegation set conditions for visit to Iran and Iran doesn’t accept any conditions,” Hossein Sheikholeslam, the parliament speaker’s advisor on international affairs, told the Mehr News Agency. Sheikholeslam added, “The European Parliament delegation intended to meet two political prisoners and give them awards and Iran did not agree with such a condition.” The 15-memebr delegation was to arrive in Iran on Sunday for a five-day visit. The first meeting between Iranian lawmakers and members of European Parliament (MEPs) took place in October 2006 in Brussels, the second in December 2007 in Tehran, and the third in November 2008 in Brussels.
