Successful Truce Requires Contribution Of All Belligerent Parties In Syria

Geneva, Oct 30, IRNA – Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab-African Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said on Monday that successful ceasefire requires contribution of all belligerent parties in Syria. He invited all groups to support the ceasefire proposed by the UN-Arab League special envoy to Syria Lakhdar Brahimi. He made the remarks on the sidelines of the United Nations meeting on poverty eradication in Burundi held at the UN European headquarters in Geneva. The Iranian official said that Syrian government abides by ceasefire declared during Eid al-Adha, but the armed groups are responsible for violating the truce, citing the car bomb explosion the terrorist groups carried in Damascus in the aftermath of the truce. Those who blatantly support shipment of arms and explosives to Syria are accountable for violation of ceasefire, he said. He said that terrorist operaions in Syria are spreading to other neighboring states. Amir-Abdollahian leading Iranian delegation arrived in Geneva on Sunday to attend the conference on Burundi. Delegations from 100 countries along with regional and international organizations attended the meeting held on October 28-29. Meanwhile, Amir-Abdollahian held talks with some delegations mainly from the African states on issues of mutual interests./end
