Flood Situation Improves In Several Malaysian States

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 7 (Bernama) -- With some respite from rains, the flood situation in the states of Perak, Melaka and Johor has showed signs of improvement while that of Selangor remained unchanged. In Ipoh, Lower Perak police chief ACP Goh Kok Liang said the number of flood victims sheltered here dropped to 192 as of 9am on Wednesday from 278 on Tuesday. Several low-lying villages were inundated when Bidor River overflowed since Saturday due to heavy downpour. In southern state of Melaka, the number of flood victims from two districts has reduced to 102 as of 8am on Wednesday compared to 107 Tuesday night, said a state flood operations room spokesman. In southern state of Johor, the number of flood victims has reduced to 1,846 as of 10am Wednesday as 133 more victims returned home. Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin is expected to visit flood victims in Parit Sulong, Batu Pahat Wednesday afternoon. In the state of Selangor, 1,820 flood victims from Sepang and Kuala Langat have taken refuge at two relief centres as of 8am Wednesday, said a state operations room spokesman. -- BERNAMA
